Power Line Carrier (PLC) communication has long been the primary communication mode for State Grid applications. Recently, the State Grid introduced a new standard: the SUB1G + HPLC dual-mode communication topology, which is currently undergoing pilot testing and is set to become the dominant standard for next-generation smart grid networks.
In response to this demand, Cosine Nanoelectronics has launched the COS8820, a highly integrated Sub-1G Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver chip. The COS8820 fully complies with the new SUB1G+HPLC dual-mode standard. The chip integrates a low-noise amplifier (LNA), a power amplifier (PA), an IQ direct down-conversion/up-conversion transceiver mixer, a high-resolution fractional-N sigma-delta frequency synthesizer, a configurable channel low-pass filter, an analog baseband, an internal power management unit, and a high-speed SPI controller interface.
High Integration and Low-Power Design
Fabricated on an advanced RF-CMOS process and packaged in a compact QFN5x5 casing, the COS8820 delivers high integration, excellent RF performance, and low current consumption. It supports OFDM modulation, allowing it to interface seamlessly with digital baseband processors. This integration enables system manufacturers to develop dual-mode grid modules quickly while reducing R&D costs and time-to-market.
