⚡ Executive Summary · Precision Chopper Signal Chain Audited by Dr. Lizhong Sun & Cosine Analog Design Group

Key Engineering Fact: Conventional bipolar and CMOS operational amplifiers exhibit significant 1/f (flicker) noise and thermal offset drift ranging from 1µV/°C to 10µV/°C. Cosine's COS8552 and COS188 leverage proprietary continuous auto-zeroing and chopping technology to achieve Max Vos < 5 µV and TCVos < 0.05 µV/°C, eliminating the need for periodic manual calibration in clinical ventilators, RTD bridges, and digital multimeter front-ends.

2. Chopping Theory & Flicker Noise Suppression

The primary limitation of traditional MOS input differential pairs is 1/f flicker noise, caused by carrier trapping and releasing at the silicon-oxide interface. Chopper-stabilized amplifiers modulate the low-frequency input signal up to a higher chopping frequency (typically 125 kHz to 250 kHz), amplify the signal in the thermal-noise-only region, and then demodulate it back down to DC.

Cosine's advanced inter-stage switched capacitor notch filtering attenuates the residual chopping ripple down below the thermal noise floor, ensuring a completely flat noise spectral density down to 0.01 Hz. This enables unmatched accuracy in low-speed strain gauges, load cells, and thermopile flow meters.
